Quote of the Week
With basketball season about to begin, here are some quotes by some of the sports legends:
“I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot .. and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed.”
Micheal Jordan
“I’ll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it’s sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.”
Kobe Bryant
“The idea is not to block every shot. The idea is to make your opponent believe that you might block every shot.”
Bill Russell
“I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.”
Larry Bird

End Of An Era!
Congrats to Mr. Schreyer and the Varsity Boys Volleyball team on a fantastic season! Though they came up short tonight against Miles Mac, they left everything they had on the floor. It was amazing to watch, be proud of everything you achieved this season.
After 29 years of coaching High School volleyball, tonight also marks the end of many successful seasons led by Mr. Schreyer. He has truly left a legacy at Lord Selkirk, and will be missed by the entire sporting community after his retirement in June. Congrats Mr. Schreyer!

Quote of the Week
It's a long one this week but a great quote still, enjoy!
"Gentlemen, today we are the underdogs! The newspapers are predicting us to lose. The fans have their doubts. Some of you in this locker room have doubts about tonight's game. But, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. What does matter is how well you play the game and who’s on top when the game ends!
Let me tell you the story of the ‘Miracle on Ice.” Some of you may be familiar with this story. Back in 1980 the US Olympic Men’s Hockey Team pulled off one of the biggest upsets in sports history. They were the underdogs and they captured the gold medals. They were a group of unknown college kids and amateurs who came together as one unit and upset a heavily favored team of Russian professionals.
Their coach, Herb Brooks, told them before the match that if they played the Russians ten times, they might lose nine out of ten, but they weren’t going to lose that one! He said “…One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can!...” That day’s game was going to be the one-in-ten that they win. Why? Because they can!
It has happened many times in history, ever since David defeated Goliath. The underdog can win! Why? Because they can! Nothing in life is guaranteed. They aren’t guaranteed a win tonight. The favorite team doesn’t always win. When they relax, when they let their guard down, when they take you for granted, and when you out-play them – they will be defeated! Because they can!
In the infamous words of coach Herb Brooks, “This is your time! Now go out there and take it!”

Varsity Boys off to Final four..a cinderella season!
The Varsity Boys did it! They defeated the #4 seeded River East Kodiaks in three straight games. Devren Dear hit a season high 25 kills and was unstoppable during the match which gave Joel Makara and Karl Fey some one on one opportunities which they pounded to the floor.
The boys will now play in the Final Four on Thursday at 6 pm at the U of M against the undefeated Miles Mac Buckeyes.
Can the Royals do it? Give the Bucks their only upset at the biggest point of the season???

JV Boys are going to the Provincials!
Congratulations to the JV boys who scrapped their way to a win over the Westwood Warriors in a wildcard match Monday night. The season was on the line for the team and though they struggled at times they did what they needed to in order to win in 4 sets and earned a berth into Provincials.
The team is now off to Portage La Prairie where they will have an opportunity to reach their season goal of playing and performing well at provincials. They have proven that they can beat the best teams out there already this season but now they will have to do it when it counts.
Good luck Royals!!
Stay tuned to the blog as we will be making live updates as the matches are completed.

Quote of the Week
Two great quotes from football coaching legend Bear Bryant:
"It's not the will to win that matters - everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters."
"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success."

JV Volleyball Wildcards
The JV Volleyball teams are both playing for their season and a berth into Provincials on Monday in wildcard matchups.
The boys are playing against Westwood whom they have defeated earlier on in the season but have not seen them on the other side of the court since. Expect a high octane match with a lot of intensity as both teams have been peaking as the season is coming to a close.
The JV girls are up against 7th seeded St Mary's who they have battled against before during tournament play.
The boys are playing at John Taylor Collegiate at 4:30 while the girls are playing at 6:00 at Westwood. If you have an opportunity to come out and watch either game you will be highly entertained with top quality volleyball actions as each team will need to play their best to keep their seasons alive!

Selkirk Royals Seeded Number Five for MHSAA Provincials
The Varsity Boys will be seeded #5 and playing against the #12 seeded Vincent Massey Brandon team on Friday at 5pm at Dakota Collegiate. Should they live up to their seed and defeat Vincent Massey they will play the #4 Seeded River East Kodiaks. Our Royals have defeated the Kodiaks twice in league play but lost to them once in league and two times in tournament matches. Can the Royals push through in crunch time to attain "Final Four" status?

KPAC Volleyball Semi-Final Update
The Royals JV and Varsity girls teams are both through the KPAC semi-finals while the boys teams were both knocked out by Miles Mac Buckeyes squads.
The most thrilling of the four semi-finals were the boys and girls JV matches, both of which went the full 5 sets.
The JV boys were playing at home and had a comfortable 2-0 lead but could not finish off the Buckeyes and fell short 15-12 in the 5th set. The boys were ranked number one in the province going into the playoffs and are now anxiously waiting to see if they will receive a wildcard into the provincials next week.
The JV girls match was an absolute thrill ride with four of the five sets decided by only 2 points. In the end, the Royals were able to win when it counted and took the final set 15-13 and will now face the MBCI Hawks in the finals on Thursday night at MBCI. Game time will be 6:00.
In Varsity action, the boys were out-gunned by the undefeated Buckeyes and while they had some good runs they were not able to sustain the effort and lost the match in three sets.
The Varsity girls on the other hand were able to easily dismantle the MBCI Hawks in straight sets and now face the Buckeyes Wednesday night in KPAC finals.
It has been an fantastic season so far for the volleyball teams and with each team ranked in the top 10 you can expect exciting action every time they step on the court.
