The Varsity Boys Volleyball team has been quite busy these days.
It started with a trip out to Edmonton to check out what Western Canada has to offer. With some up and down play in the round robin, they managed to squeak their way into a quarterfinal by finishing 2nd in pool play.
In the quarterfinals they faced a top ranked Harry Ainley team. The game was extremely close neither team taking more than a 3 point lead throughout the whole match. In the end, the Royals were too good and took the match 2-0.
In the semi's the Royals came up against a very skilled Chinook team. It was close all the way but the Royals ran out of gas and couldn't quite play at the level they needed.
In the end they finished up in 4th place out of 24 teams.
This weekend, they have been in competition at the 49th Annual St Vital tournament. Playing in the top Power Pool on Thursday night, the Royals finished in 3rd place which put them into a Friday round of 16 match against College Jean Sauve which they handled in entertaining fashion 3-0.
Following the CJS match, the team came up against a determined Glenlawn team who was extremely persistent and fought for every point. However, despite losing the first set, the Royals stormed back to win the next 3 straight.
That puts the team into the semi-finals on Saturday against MBCI Hawks. Game time is 1:30 PM at College Jean Sauve. Get out there and cheer them on!
Go Royals!
